Authorized Users: The Legal Way to Build Credit Fast

How being added to an established account can help your profile.

When someone adds you as an authorized user on their credit card, that account’s history can appear on your report. If the account is old, has a low balance and a perfect payment record, it can strengthen a thin or damaged profile.

What helps

  • Long account age
  • Low utilization (well under 30%)
  • No late payments

What to watch

  • If the primary cardholder misses payments, that can hurt you too
  • Not every lender weighs authorized-user accounts the same way
  • It complements, not replaces, accounts in your own name

Pair it with your own history

Rent reporting, credit-builder accounts and secured cards build history that’s entirely yours. Phase 2 of the $1M Playbook combines these so your profile is strong in the ways lenders actually check. Results vary by starting profile.
